About the Project

The new plywood panel mill located in Melo, Cerro Largo department, 12 kilometers south of the city along Route 8, will be a major milestone in Uruguay’s forestry industry. This expansion will allow Lumin to increase its annual production capacity to nearly 500,000 cubic meters, positioning the country as the second-largest plywood producer in Latin America.

With an area of 13,648 km², Cerro Largo is one of the largest regions in the country. Its population is around 85,000, with a strong agro-industrial profile. 
Its economic base includes sectors such as rice milling, meat processing, dairy, and cured meats, especially in Melo and Río Branco. The manufacturing industry accounts for 8% of local employment, generating approximately 2,900 direct jobs
